Starcraft MMO?

If you've been playing World of Warcraft for any stretch of time then you've certainly heard the Blizzard's frequent PR phrase..."Next Generation MMO". Many have speculated on just what this MMO would be, and it looks like we finally have an answer.

Typically I'm not one to hop on the rumor band wagon, but a personal friend and insider Blizzard source has informed me that this new new generation MMO will be based in the Stracraft world. The official announcement is due out May 19th, and will confirm the MMO's release in late 2009.

Didn't Gamespot make that picture above? Honestly though I wouldn't mind a World of Starcraft, that or freakin Starcraft 2 to hit shelves!

Well, I'm gonna pull the ol' my friend's friend's brother's etc here.

Anyways, guy I used to work with who got me playing WoW has a family member who also plays wow and knows a developer. He told me about the Starcraft MMO well over a year ago because his daughter was play testing the Alpha. I remember asking him about it a few months later and he said Blizz had abandoned the project.

If I remember correctly he cited the lore/races/backstory not really being rich enough to build an entire MMO around and there was too much parody in game-play that would most likely just cannibalize people from WoW instead of bringing in new players.

Highly credible guy, no reason to lie but I haven't spoken to him in about 8 months so perhaps Starcraft is back on...

Well, if the 19th comes and goes with no word then we might can just assume SC MMO is done. That said, I've seen lots of additional gaming news sites post on this potential development.
